Does anyone here collect stamps or know someone who does?

I got two partially complete stamp albums at work the other day, but I cant figure out how to tell what’s worth what. So I give up. They have stamps from as early as the 1850s in them, so I can’t i magine those aren’t worth at least a buck or two each. But anyway, if you could use these, I’ll send em to you for free ( just pay shipping). All I ask in return is that if you happen to find something incredible, you slip me whatever you think is fair for it. ( For example, if you find a $300 stamp, I’ll be more than happy with 50 bucks as long as I know it went to someone who likes it and not a reseller)

Here’s one of the pages in the more complete album, if you happen to see anything that jumps out at you.

I will ask my brother- in- law if he would be interested. He is a serious stamp collector. He’s had a few large purchases after selling a few stamps (like a couple houses. ) If they are canceled (circulated) , the value drops significantly. If they are canceled , they better be attached to the original cover (envelope) to keep their value. That is about the only thing I’ve learned from him. I collect German and Soviet firearms, so not big into stamps .

If you are personally interested in them (doesn’t sound like it) take them to a stamp dealer/collector. They should give you a ballpark figure of what they could be worth. A full series collection can be worth tens- of- thousands of dollars. People pay lots of money for oddball things. I think my wife’s video game collection will fund her retirement...

I was into this when I was younger, a hobby that kept me occupied after an injury. I don’t see anything I recall as particularly valuable on those pages (looks like US issues of ~ 1930-33), but in these old albums, there can always be surprises, as items once not too valuable can become popular (Chinese stamps in particular).   I can’t really spare the bandwidth for this as I am not actively in it, but someone will be thrilled to root through those albums.  There’s still an obsessive collecting base out there.

You could try calling local coin dealers. Several in my area also deal in stamps. They may not be interested in buying, but I’ve always found the ones near me to be very friendly and willing to talk about what you have.

I’m interested to have it, and will pay shipping.

Not a big collector (I have some coins) , but my dad used to collect them (and coins), and I love the designs of these things.

My mother collects them! I’d love to get these for her birthday if no one else has claimed them.

Looks like you’re first in line, but maybe I’ll see about getting them appraised first.

Cool! I think that puts you second in line. I’m going to see about appraising them first, but I’ll be sure to get back to you if GoodIdeaAtTheTime falls through!
